It’s time to celebrate!

November 16, 2009

You might think that I’m getting in early for Christmas, or my birthday – which is now less than two weeks away, but no!  Anytime is actually great for celebrating, and it’s something I do with coaching clients on a regular basis.

The kind of celebrating is one you can do alone or with friends, but a piece of paper is a really great help either way.

Here’s what it looks like… list all of your recent achievements; consider all the little things you’ve done that you felt proud of, even for a moment.

1. Planted my own rocket and basil

2. Tidied my desktop and keep files managed

3. Helped a client gain an ROI of 80% after the second week of coaching!

4. Inspired myself writing out my presentation for Friday

5. Blogged for 100 consecutive Days – inspired self and others, and learned to insert photos!

6. Studied Theoretical Foundations of Coaching with David Rock

This is a simple example list, and I’m going to do a more comprehensive one over the next few days, but I just wanted to share an example. It’s too easy to look at what’s not yet been completed, or see skills that are lacking, but that kind of thinking doesn’t tend to move you forward.

When you look at what you’ve accomplished, and what you’ve learned, you can then ask yourself – so what does this mean for me? Now what can I tackle that I once thought was too hard or too scary?

bungyWhen I was in New Zealand a few years ago, I stood at the top of a water slide called “the coffin” because once you let go of the top, you were plunged into absolute darkness, speeding down (and around in unexpected directions). My brother-in-law said to me “this is the scariest one” and I stood waiting for the green light and realised that I felt scared.  It was so easy to take on what he said, which was just how that slide was known.  My thought “I’m actually a bit scared” was followed by “What! You just did a bungy-jump last week!” and all of a sudden the anxiety was gone, replaced by confidence and anticipation.  A scary idea?  Bring it on, I’ve tackled some of those before – and come out the other side with a great sense of accomplishment and valuable learning.

What are you going to celebrate?  And what can you then do as a result of seeing how amazing you are?

Cheering you on,

Love Kerrie

100 Days of Gratitude – Day 94

September 28, 2009

Today I’m happy to say that I’m grateful to have sent my completed book to the publisher.  I took the printed book down to Stephen’s Patisserie to read it and enjoy a great coffee and a different environment. Of course I found a few typo’s that have slipped past many proofreaders eyes, so I came back to the office, fixed them, and gave Lyndon the honour of sending the file.  Then we went to celebrate with a little shopping – deciding on seafood to create a fabulous, and quick stir-fry for dinner.  (And chocolate of course) Ethan was so excited and suggested we skip through the shopping centre.  I love that kids don’t care who sees them skipping, so I held his hand and joined him. I’m also grateful that Ethan and Lyndon have both been supporting me in writing and completing the book.

Book completeI’m grateful for the people who have shared their stories with me for the book – they are so inspiring and their words move me even as I proofread and skim over when looking at the chapters from a layout perspective.  I can’t wait to share it with people, and I’m looking forward to reading it over the Christmas break when I can just read to enjoy. There are a few other books on my Christmas holidays list too!

There are so many things I can list that I’m grateful for, but even just in relation to this book project there are many.  The comments I’ve had on my facebook wall from friends have been so encouraging and it’s evidence of the little things we do making such a difference.  Someone may have visited my page for a moment, but leaving their thoughts on it has lifted me a little more.  This is especially lovely when you’re very tired!

Thanks to all who do the little things that make a big difference. So easy, and yet so significant.

Love Kerrie

PS. Lyndon took this pic at 1.25am, when it was all printed out.

Christmas madness…

December 18, 2008

Christmas madness… or Christmas Fun?

I took half a day off yesterday to meet my family who had come to town, and to do a little Christmas shopping with them. Before heading downtown, I considered what the crowds are like down there at the moment. Just finding a place to park the car can be ridiculous, as people stress about not being able to find one (I guess) and so when they see someone start to put shopping bags in a parked car, they’ll pull up behind it and wait, holding up all the traffic behind them… as if this is going to be the only available parking spot for miles! What if the person putting shopping bags in their car is doing only that, then going back to the shops for more? And so we wait… This is only one example of the craziness that goes on.

So we can get caught up in the stress and anxiety of “what if there’s no-where to park?” or “I bet what I want is sold out… I’ll have to be demanding to get what I want…” or we can choose to remember what the season is all about and go with a generous, abundant mindset and just HAVE FUN!

So we chose that and really enjoyed our time together. It was nice to wander around, dodging wild shopping trolleys and exploring gift ideas for special people.

I hope you’re enjoying the busy season you’re in at the moment. Some seasons in life aren’t fun, but we can choose our attitude in any given moment. In this case I found it useful to choose my focus before getting in the situation, so we didn’t get swept into the general atmosphere! Have you noticed that crowds have a “vibe”?

I think it’s really funny (although dangerous) that on rainy days, especially when it’s heavy rain, people seem to drive faster, more recklessly… although trying to rush so they don’t get wet! It’s only a car – and cars are totally okay with getting wet! So we can drive like that too – or deliberately slow down and drive appropriately. Hmm… food for thought, hope you’ve enjoyed my ramblings…

Cheering you on,

Love Kerrie

PS. Happy Christmas!

Inspired Blogging

December 16, 2008

One of the things that I love about blogging is seeing the comments that land at the bottom of the page, especially from people like Miki from South Africa!  Another is that I get to share the excitement and learning and I feel like I’m not keeping all the good news to myself!  Good news, or just happy, grateful thoughts – it’s all good and I can just “put it out there” for whoever wants it!

I’m trying to wrap up our year in a nutshell for our newsletter that is going out today.  It’s a challenge!  I can see why last year I wrote my blog “I’m thankful” (see December entries) and just sent a brief Christmas email to people inviting them to see it!

Again, I’m thankful, and celebrating the completion of the year (some of it, we’re so glad is over!) and recognising the very steep learning curve we’ve been on.  We have met so many awesome people this year, traveled (just within Australia this year, but it’s big enough!)  We’ve been to Brisbane, Sydney (countless times), Gold Coast, Broken Hill, Tooraweenah, Grenfell, Forbes and West Wyalong.  We’ve attended weddings, funerals and Intensive Care, moved house (we’re now in South Dubbo if you missed that bit of news).
I’ve coached fabulous people in Country NSW, New  Zealand, Singapore and Taiwan, mentored new coaches from Adelaide to Indonesia and discovered the following  quote from Anais Nin to be so true:

“Each new friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born.”

So if you have stepped into my world in 2008, or anytime previously… I thank you.  You have made a difference, whether it’s been a pleasant relationship or a challenging one, it’s one I am grateful for, as you have helped me grow.  I hope that in our interactions I may have helped you grow too.

Cheering you on,

Love Kerrie

I’m Thankful…

December 21, 2007

First of all – I’m thankful for each person reading this – I hope you find it well worth the time and see more things in your world you are thankful for.  What a great focus to end the year with!  (The impact – besides feeling great – is that you’re in a fantastic space to think big when it comes to considering possibilities and goals for 2008)

I’m thankful for another big year coming to a close, with much to celebrate…  I have just spent the afternoon with some of my family – including my 4 Grandparents.  I’m 34 years old and still have my 4 grandparents to share some of the joys of life with – including my gorgeous 7 year old son Ethan. They are an incredible example to us all as both couples have celebrated their 63rd Wedding Anniversaries this year and say that communication is the key… it’s the key to anything relational isn’t it?!  Ok, back to thankfulness… what a year! I’ve travelled to Sydney (countless times and all good), Brisbane, Melbourne & Singapore, plus a few road trips around the region for various speaking/coaching events.  I’m so grateful for the people I’ve met, the confidence I’ve stepped into, the clients I’ve had the honour to work with – each one overcoming obstacles and achieving significant goals, changing their lives.  I’m thankful for the training I’ve completed, the inspiring colleagues I’m delighted to work with, the incredible friendships with passionate, purposeful difference-makers.  I am so blessed.  Many new friendships to treasure and established ones which grow more lovely and valuable each year.  On this note I must write of my incredible husband who I love more dearly as we continue our journey – it’s so much better than ever before!  We celebrated our 13th Wedding Anniversary in June amongst other celebrations.  Lyndon has been quite the student this year, first in bookkeeping,  followed by intense study to complete his parachute instructor rating, along with my dad – they both passed with flying colours.  I’m so thankful for Lyndon’s role in my/our business – I couldn’t do it so well without him (and all his fabulous, organised bookkeeping and admin)!!   We are also celebrating the completion of 3 years of KL Coaching Solutions and have changed the business to Kerrie Phipps Coaching & Development.

Another major blessing has been our recent move – to a beautiful house on the edge of town, perfect for entertaining and quiet family time.  My office is now in another building on the property, so we’re loving home being home with no sign of paperwork or business bits and pieces.  We’re so grateful for this home and the awesome friends who’ve entrusted it to us.  We are also thankful that our two previous homes are well tenanted and increasing in value – giving us the opportunity to further invest.  We have a bright future – much to anticipate, celebrate and learn along the way.

Finally, I am thankful for Christmas and forever grateful that God chose to step into our world and change us for eternity.  Have a wonderful, loving Christmas and be kind to yourself and those in your world.  Love & Blessings, Kerrie
