Learning and Development (Part 2)

March 31, 2008 by Kerrie Phipps

Learning and Development continued to be the theme of March… no surprise as it’s a massive part of my life, and the second half of the month it got really personal. There’s nothing like a challenging situation to generate self awareness, to see where you’re at and what you’re made of. “Adversity introduces a man to himself” (Unknown)

I’ve been reading Think & Grow Rich – finding some absolute gems there. Lyndon’s just downloaded the audio book version, so I’m looking forward to hearing the book as I walk. I’m also reading Secret’s of Internet Entrepreneurs Exposed which has the brain firing with lots of new ideas & inspiration… watch this space!

March concluded with a hen’s party, catch ups with friends and Ethan’s school Fete. He was so proud of his Dad, his Grandad, (my Dad) and my brother “Uncle Greg” parachute into the school. I accompanied him on “The Octopus” and managed to retain my lunch… although Ethan was concerned he’d lose his. On to the Dodgem cars for a more relaxed afternoon.

Another something worthy of mention was that I was asked to assist Ruth Donde, Results Coaching System’s NZ Regional Manager, on Build Your Practice, an 8 week business building course for Coaches. This is a fabulous course, integral to my development as a Coach, who initially hadn’t a clue about business, just a passion for coaching and making a difference in people’s lives. This is the third time I’ve assisted on this course, so the fourth time I’ve been through it. I love working with new coaches to find their feet in the business world, grow confident in marketing their practice and continue in their own learning and development.

Learning and Development

March 23, 2008 by Kerrie Phipps

Learning and Development has definitely been the theme for me this month! I usually feel like I’m on a learning curve, and absolutely love it, but sometimes it’s much steeper than other times. We started the month with a Think & Grow Rich Seminar in Sydney which was fantastic; a confirmation of the path we’re on, and a time of opening our eyes to further opportunities. It was also the beginning of some amazing new friendships!

I was asked to speak about Networking at the Chamber of Commerce Breakfast in Dubbo on 4 March, which went really well - people left buzzing – one woman who I networked with in front of the room (as a demonstration) left with 3 clients as a result. (that we know of!) I’ve since written “Confidently Connecting – Top Networking Tips” for Regional Business Magazine, receiving great feedback about how useful it’s been. If you’d like a copy please let me know and I’ll send it to you.

Results Coaching Systems invited me to attend their Asia Pacific Leadership Days, which was brilliant (as expected). Day One was focused on business development – as a Results team, and individually. One of the highlights for me was meeting my Coach friends from New Zealand, who I’ve only known on the phone and by email until now.

That evening David Rock, Founder and CEO of Results Coaching Systems was the guest speaker at the Boss Club event in the Sydney’s CBD. It’s always great to hear David speak about what’s happening in the Neuroleadership world and it was an excellent event, beautifully hosted by Boss Magazine Editor Narelle Hooper.

The next day with the Results team was focused on training and we spent a good portion of the day with David delving into the Neuroscience that relates to coaching and sharing resources to further improve the quality of our programs. I loved it and took pages of notes. If you’re interested in this fascinating subject check it out here… www.neuroleadership.org - the audio downloads are really interesting.

More March news soon…to much excitement for one blog!

Have a great week, enjoy your own learning and development,

Love Kerrie

Achieving Goals

February 27, 2008 by Kerrie Phipps

Achieving goals on time, every time – who does that?! Approximately 80% of my clients achieve their goals in the intended time-frame, sometimes sooner, which is exciting. (Bear in mind that they have committed to a process of fast-tracking their achievements) However, there are often goals that are more challenging than expected, or there are random interruptions that occur throughout life, such as sickness or technical delays.
It can be disheartening to feel like your goal is too far off, but it’s important to remember two things.

1. Keep Moving! It doesn’t really matter how fast you’re achieving goals, just don’t let discouragement stop you in your tracks. Keep focused on the big picture and keep moving forward, little steps at a time.

2. The journey is often more important than the destination. It’s great to achieve goals, but don’t lose sight of the learning along the way. Who you become on your journey to the goals tends to be more significant than the goal itself.

Have a super month, learning, celebrating and achieving goals!

The Power of Commitment

January 31, 2008 by Kerrie Phipps

If you’re not ready to commit to something, then don’t!!  Many people make New Years Resolutions and have become “too busy” to stick to them.  It’s more likely a commitment factor. I needed a holiday after Christmas, I wasn’t ready to create powerful goals for the year then - but now… look out world!  Here comes my best year ever.

When you’re clear on what’s most important to you, and what’s an achievable time-frame, make your plans and go for it!  Commit wholeheartedly and don’t look back, keep focused and believing that it’s possible.  This quote, one of my favourites, expresses it beautifully…

“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness, concerning all acts of initiative [and creation]. There is one elementary truth the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans; that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favour all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance which no man could have dreamed would have come his way.Whatever you can do or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin it now. Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe/ Sir Edmund Hillary

What have you been thinking about doing this year?  Are you ready to move forward and keep going?  People ask me (especially in the coaching community) how I managed to build a successful coaching practice - “and in a regional area” and my answer has to be that I chose not to have a “plan B”.  I knew what I wanted to do and was not going to settle for anything else.  It can be tempting, when you’re multi-talented, to settle for something you do well and enjoy - but if there’s something bigger calling you GO FOR IT!

Cheering you on, Kerrie

I’m Thankful…

December 21, 2007 by Kerrie Phipps

First of all - I’m thankful for each person reading this - I hope you find it well worth the time and see more things in your world you are thankful for.  What a great focus to end the year with!  (The impact - besides feeling great - is that you’re in a fantastic space to think big when it comes to considering possibilities and goals for 200 8)

I’m thankful for another big year coming to a close, with much to celebrate…  I have just spent the afternoon with some of my family - including my 4 Grandparents.  I’m 34 years old and still have my 4 grandparents to share some of the joys of life with - including my gorgeous 7 year old son Ethan. They are an incredible example to us all as both couples have celebrated their 63rd Wedding Anniversaries this year and say that communication is the key… it’s the key to anything relational isn’t it?!  Ok, back to thankfulness… what a year! I’ve travelled to Sydney (countless times and all good), Brisbane, Melbourne & Singapore, plus a few road trips around the region for various speaking/coaching events.  I’m so grateful for the people I’ve met, the confidence I’ve stepped into, the clients I’ve had the honour to work with - each one overcoming obstacles and achieving significant goals, changing their lives.  I’m thankful for the training I’ve completed, the inspiring colleagues I’m delighted to work with, the incredible friendships with passionate, purposeful difference-makers.  I am so blessed.  Many new friendships to treasure and established ones which grow more lovely and valuable each year.  On this note I must write of my incredible husband who I love more dearly as we continue our journey - it’s so much better than ever before!  We celebrated our 13th Wedding Anniversary in June amongst other celebrations.  Lyndon has been quite the student this year, first in bookkeeping,  followed by intense study to complete his parachute instructor rating, along with my dad - they both passed with flying colours.  I’m so thankful for Lyndon’s role in my/our business - I couldn’t do it so well without him (and all his fabulous, organised bookkeeping and admin)!!   We are also celebrating the completion of 3 years of KL Coaching Solutions and have changed the business to Kerrie Phipps Coaching & Development.

Another major blessing has been our recent move - to a beautiful house on the edge of town, perfect for entertaining and quiet family time.  My office is now in another building on the property, so we’re loving home being home with no sign of paperwork or business bits and pieces.  We’re so grateful for this home and the awesome friends who’ve entrusted it to us.  We are also thankful that our two previous homes are well tenanted and increasing in value - giving us the opportunity to further invest.  We have a bright future - much to anticipate, celebrate and learn along the way.

Finally, I am thankful for Christmas and forever grateful that God chose to step into our world and change us for eternity.  Have a wonderful, loving Christmas and be kind to yourself and those in your world.  Love & Blessings, Kerrie

More Celebrating…

December 20, 2007 by Kerrie Phipps

Recently I attended “Women, Wine and Wealth” - a fabulous girls day out, with workshops on Celebrating Your Personal Wealth and Building Financial Wealth… in the afternoon I shared a snapshot of my life story, the good, bad & the ugly, from an angle of Celebrating… all three!  The good - we have much to learn from and be grateful for, the bad and the ugly - to celebrate the overcoming, the resilience and understanding that comes from such times.  We looked at artworks from the “Waste to Art” Exhibition and I asked the women to consider what Waste they’ve turned to Art in their life, or what trash has been or can be turned to treasure in their lives.   An email I received shortly after the event read -  “…your statements really rang true. For  me I thought about how sometimes I only see the things my husband gets wrong, as from today I’m going to celebrate, acknowledge and treasure the things he does well. What an amazing insight! That’s another whole conversation, but what if we do celebrate our own journey as well as that of others? What are the potential effects of that? Some people are great at acknowledging others, but not themselves, some see their own qualities, and not others, but what if we create a nice blend and see the best in everyone?!  What we focus on we create more of, remember?!  Have an excellent day, believing in yourself and those around you.

A business client says…

November 26, 2007 by Kerrie Phipps

I went into coaching not really knowing what to expect and not knowing if I really needed coaching.  After all I was allready succesful having a growing business with 3 Supermarkets and 130 staff and my family life was great.  But I still felt something was missing in my life and I decided to give it a go.  Well what a great decision.  Kerrie helped me find the missing link and that was CLARITY. With Kerries guidance I was able to reach the goals I had set for my business and family life and I go forward with confidence knowing “who and why I am,” with clear and precise business goals that I know I am going to achieve.

Whilst family life was great before entering into coaching I now have a new perspective and I am proud to say that I now find every day family life vibrant and exciting.  Coaching has helped me realise how special everyday is.

I am a better person for having met and been coached by Kerrie and recommend Coaching to anyone who wants to LIVE their life.  You only get one shot at life and I intend on making the absolute most out of it.  Thankyou Kerrie for making my life better.

An executive client says…

“My coaching experience was about moving forward with clarity – Kerrie coached, I moved forward.

I found working with Kerrie extremely valuable due to her strong, unique ability to be personal – to shape incisive questions only by being a strong listener. I also now have seen the benefit of these attributes “at work” and can take into my own practice”.

Celebrating and learning

October 23, 2007 by Kerrie Phipps

Last night I celebrated with a few local clients and friends - our accomplishments, learning and life in general.  Very exciting stuff…

Along with some drinks and snacks and “speed networking” with the focus on fun and the lovely things in life, we discussed the value of celebrating - from a scientific perspective!

We are generally quite good at berating ourselves, but not so experienced when it comes to exploring our qualities, talents, abilities and all the little things we do well.

When we focus on these things, celebrate them and consider what can be learned, we create more of the same.  Basic brain science - not rocket science.  Focus on the good and you’ll hardwire that kind of thinking, causing you to continue to grow in that way.

One thing that I absolutely love about the coaching journey - for myself and my clients - is the way that observing and learning from our positive outcomes and achievements causes the inner confidence or self esteem to line up with the exterior show of confidence. This means you step into a new level of authenticity - with yourself and others - you know you’re not faking it anymore.  There’s nothing to prove - you’re comfortable with who you are whether things are going along swimmingly or if you’ve just stuffed up.

How exciting to be free of the expectations and opinions of others!  It’s not pride or arrogance, but an authentic, healthy self image.  What liberty!

Now that’s something to celebrate!
